  • Metaverse Consumer Product Modeling Scene Developer Terms and Glossary

In describing the applications and benefits of the virtual world and showcasing your company physical products, we frequently use phrases that might not be readily understood even by people well-versed.

Advanced 3D Analytics and Data (MetaVRse) –  Z-dimension allows for real time heat maps of global consumer behavior. The future of data is here and it’s in 3D.

Computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM)
CAD/CAM software systems enable designers to capture their design intent for mechanical parts or assemblies by graphically describing the precise 2D or 3D geometry of the parts.

CAD mechanism module
Most CAD/CAM systems have an optional add-on module that enables the CAD user to model not just parts, and not just static assemblies of parts, but moving assemblies (mechanisms or mechanical systems) as well. Typically, these modules enable the user to connect parts with joints from an on-line library, and then to articulate, or move, the mechanism around in two or three dimensions.  Using such a mechanism module, CAD users can detect collisions, locate lock-up positions, define motion envelopes, and calculate loads at the joints, all without leaving their familiar CAD environment.

Design optimization
This is the capability, in virtual prototyping software, to define design objectives, constraints, and variables, and then have the software iterate automatically to the optimally-performing configuration.

Design of experiments (DOE)
DOE is a complementary technique to design optimization. DOE is a methodology for running a statistically significant battery of tests (or computer simulations) on a design to determine its sensitivity or robustness to design or manufacturing variations. Applied with virtual prototyping, DOE automatically produces the arrays of simulation permutations required for a complete “experiment.” By thus submitting new design variations to a consistent, standard battery of “virtual tests,” manufacturers can develop sufficiently rigorous knowledge of, and confidence in, the performance of their system designs to avoid all but a single, perfunctory physical prototype.

Design study
This term describes the ability in virtual prototyping software to select a design variable (say, the length of a link in a mechanical system design), sweep that variable through a range of values, and then simulate the motion behavior of the various designs in order to understand the sensitivity of the overall system to these design variations. Synonym: parametric design simulation.

Dynamics
Dynamics refers to the study of multibody systems (mechanisms, linkages, or other mechanical systems or subsystems) undergoing large-displacement motion, taking into account the effects of applied and inertial forces. Synonyms: multibody dynamics; mechanical system simulation.

Decentraland
Decentraland is an Ethereum-based blockchain platform where people can build, buy, and sell virtual reality applications. You can utilize the virtual land available on the Decentraland platform to run decentralized applications (DApp). Esteban Ordano and Ari Meilich founded this project as a proof of concept for allocating ownership of digital real estate to blockchain users.

Decentraland Builder Tool
Decentraland’s Builder Editor is a simple online 3D pick and place tool used as a visual editor for creating and publishing in Decentraland.  https://builder.decentraland.org/ sign in while it utilizes the Decentraland SDK and runs on your browser without requiring any downloads.

dApp Short for decentralized application, a dApp is any application that is designed to run on a blockchain network, like Ethereum.

District
Groups of adjacent parcels that share similar user interests that can help showcase your products. You can find a list of Districts with their documentation on our Community Wiki. For a record of the original district proposals, please see this GitHub repository.

ERC20 Token

A fungible (reproducible or interchangeable) token built using an Ethereum smart contract according to the ERC-20 Token Standard. MANA is Decentraland’s ERC20 token.

Ethereum
A decentralized platform for building applications based on smart contracts. Decentraland is being built on the Ethereum platform. For more information, please visit https://www.ethereum.org/

Finite element analysis (FEA)
FEA is a software technique used to study stresses and strains on mechanical parts or components. Virtual prototyping software automatically generates input loads for FEA. In addition, FEA-computed component flexibility (“stiffnesses”) can be imported into virtual prototyping software to accurately simulate the motion behavior of systems with flexible parts.

Flexible-body dynamics
Flexible-body dynamics is the study of the motion behavior of mechanical systems in which some of the components are flexible (i.e., not infinitely rigid).

Kinematics
Kinematics refers to the study of multibody systems (mechanisms, linkages, or other mechanical systems or subsystems) undergoing large-displacement motion, not taking into account the effects of applied or inertial forces.

Mechanical system
A mechanical system is a collection of parts or components that are connected to each other by joints, and that move or articulate in two or three dimensions.

Fungible Token
A fungible token is any token whose fundamental unit or characteristic is interchangeable with other tokens of the same set. In other words, fungible tokens are not unique. Examples of fungible tokens are Decentraland’s MANA or Ethereum’s Ether.

Genesis City
The geographic center of Decentraland, set at an area of 90,000 parcels, with 36,041 parcels dedicated to community districts. The remaining parcels of Genesis City were auctioned to users during the Terraform Event, or LAND auction.

LAND
LAND is a scarce, non-fungible digital asset maintained in an Ethereum smart contract that represents the parcels of virtual land within Decentraland.

MANA
A Decentraland (MANA) is an Ethereum token that powers the Decentraland virtual reality platform. MANA can be used to pay for virtual plots of land in Decentraland as well as in-world goods and services.

Meta
A Greek prefix meaning hind or posterior; used with Latin, latinized, or Green words to indicate the posterior (usually third) part of a structure).

Metaverse
MetaVR (in science fiction) a shared, realistic, and immersive computer simulation of the real world or other possible worlds, in which people participate as digital avatars.   A
theoretical or emergent networked online space with digitally persistent environments that people inhabit, as avatars, for synchronous interactions and experiences, accessing the shared virtual space through virtual reality, augmented reality, game consoles, mobile devices, or conventional computers.

MetaMask

A browser extension that allows you to access and run dApps without running an entire node on the Ethereum blockchain. For more information, and to install MetaMask to begin using Decentraland’s features, please see https://metamask.io/

NFT (Non-Fungible Token)

In contrast to a fungible token, non-fungible tokens are unique, distinguishable digital assets. The information contained within a non-fungible token is unique to that token, like a serial number or coordinates for a parcel of LAND in Decentraland.   One non-fungible token can never be swapped, or exchanged, for any other token.

Parcel

A 16 meter by 16 meter piece of LAND within Decentraland.

Parametric design simulation
Parametric design simulation is the ability in virtual prototyping software to select a design parameter or variable (say, the length of a link in a mechanical system design), sweep that variable through a range of values, and then simulate the motion behavior of the various designs in order to understand the sensitivity of the overall system to these design variations. Synonym: design study.

Product Sales Training (Samsung) – This example of the Samsung Note 20 shows how product demos and sales training are almost identical and can be created once and used multiple times throughout an organization.

Scene

A scene within Decentraland comprises the 3D objects, textures, and audio content rendered on a LAND parcel or group of parcels.  Let us help showcase your factory Scene, medical ward, or other architectural wonder.

Smart Contract

A smart contract is simply a program on the Ethereum blockchain that facilitates and verifies digital transactions. Ethereum smart contracts enable developers to build decentralized applications that can track and transfer ownership of digital assets on a trustless network in exchange for ownership of mechanical CNC data or other 3D assets sold on resources such as Opensea.io

Virtual prototyping
Virtual prototyping is a software-based engineering discipline that entails modeling a mechanical system, simulating and visualizing its 3D motion behavior under real-world operating conditions, and refining/optimizing the design through iterative design studies…. prior to building the first physical prototype. Synonym: mechanical system simulation.

vStores (MetaVRse) – Virtual Showrooms or vStores allow customers to take tours of any space or facility and interact with all kinds of objects ranging from a complete catalog of industrial machines to small tools or engineering processes. This can be used to visualize and interact with any retail product in 3D from cars to fashion to jewelry and NFT digital assets — you name it.  Try a live vStore Concept here.
